M. Chad Smith

Chad's involvement with the action sport industry at an early age exposed him to many networking and interaction opportunities with high level figures in the pro skate and ride communities.  Having built an inline skate curriculum and participated with other established curriculums with other skate companies, Chad developed a solid presence in the inline skate or Rollerblade world.  Some of Chad's affiliates include names such as Burton Snowboards, Salomon USA, Still Hot Productions, Mona-Vie, Howard County Maryland Department of Recreation, America Inline, KASPA Clothing, AXIS shoe company, The Woodward Camp in Pennsylvania, The Woodward Camp in California and B-Dub's East Coast Skatepark Tours.  Chad also brings ROCK SOLID snowboarding abilities to the table.  He moved to Stowe, Vermont (4393ft), fresh from high school and learned the ropes of hard snowboarding at the age of 17 and has been riding ever since.  Ironically it seems each winter Chad travels west to ride, the Baltimore Ravens NFL team do very well.  He moved to the Gallatin Range in Montana during the winter 2001 season and travelled the Yellowstone region in search of deep fresh powder while working at the Big Sky Resort(11,155ft), south of Bozeman Montana. Chad also worked as a Level 9 instructor for Liberty Mountain (250ft)in Pennsylvania while he was in Maryland during the winter.  During the winter of 2009, the AGB Snowboard Union prepared and charted a backcountry video expedition to the bootpack and summit of Mount Tallac (9400ft), found in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, just southwest of Lake Tahoe.  Digital recordings will be available during February 2009.   His exposure to videography while actively participating in these industries has fueled his aquiring the skills to collect and edit action media.  It is from all these places that creative energy is drawn while creating a UBG Project.

During the summers, Chad worked part-time, as an at-risk adolescent counselor for a court appointed youth rehab facility located in western Howard County. Here, students were from many backgrounds and walks of life, yet all managed to still have potential.  Chad's personal background from Hon. Eagle Scout to avid outdoorsman in all environments, helped shape his influence on these kids.

Chad's outdoor sportsman accomplishments are outstanding.  Both a hunter and a fisherman, Chad has harvested or caught some trophies that some sportsmen wait an entire lifetime for.  He enjoys deep saltwater expeditions in search of Tuna and Billfish and has caught both, including an Atlantic Swordfish.
He is also a scientist.  Currently he is working with the MD State DNR Wildlife Heritage Program Sika Elk Research Project.  The present goal is disperal range of juvenile bucks (<1yrs) in Dorchester.  This is done con-currently while enrolled Fall and Spring in the Biology Department of Frostburg State University in western MD, completing requirements for a B.S. in Wildlife Management and is operations superintendent of TarBay Hunt Club Inc., located on a private peninsula and island chain on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Dorchester County, MD.  Here an abundant population of wild and water life, like crabs and fish, shorebirds to Sika elk and Whitetail deer, Bald Eagles and DelMarva Fox Squirrels are all available for research or harvest.  Chad is also part of the Meade Natural Heritage Association at Patuxent Wildlife Research Center near Ft. Meade, MD.  He enjoys being a steward of the land.
